ZZ Top have their own tribute album
A Tribute From Friends is the name of the ZZ Top tribute album which will be released on October 11. Apparently 11 ‘classic’ songs will be featured (holy shit, a lot of 11 numbers, call Dave Mustaine… It’s symbolism!!!111).
Want to know who will cover the ‘classic’ songs? Well, some decent names like Mastodon, and some pretty awful ones, like Wyclef Jean, Nickelback and Daughtry.
Here’s the track listing I stole got from Blabbermouth:
01. THE M.O.B. (Mick Fleetwood, Steven Tyler, Jonny Lang & John McVie) - "Sharp Dressed Man" 02. FILTER - "Gimme All Your Lovin'" 03. GRACE POTTER & THE NOCTURNALS - "Tush" 04. NICKELBACK - "Legs" 05. WOLFMOTHER - "Cheap Sunglasses" 06. DUFF MCKAGAN'S LOADED - "Got Me Under Pressure" 07. COHEED & CAMBRIA - "Beer Drinkers And Hell Raisers" 08. MASTODON - "Just Got Paid" 09. WYCLEF JEAN - "Rough Boy" 10. DAUGHTRY - "Waitin' For The Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago" 11. JAMEY JOHNSON - "La Grange"
There you have it. If you wanted more ZZ Top in your life, October 11 will be a great day for you. Not for me, though. I refuse to hear anything with Wyclef Jean’s name attached to it.
Mastodon’s Black Tongue leaked
Sounds like some serious case of STDs, right? Well, it’s not, it’s “just” Mastodon with their new song, Black Tongue. Apparently, yesterday a leak appeared, then it got pulled, then it reappeared, then YouTube blocked it, then… Bla. What matters is that a proper upload appeared, in the shape of a video which chronicles the creation of the sculpture used on the album cover. Play it, enjoy it.
Who likes live videos?
Everyone should like live videos right? I know it’s bit like comparing porn to real sex, or watching sports to playing sports (actually that last analogy doesn’t work at all), but you can’t always make it to your favorite gigs or festivals, can you?
So luckily, fans of bands like Opeth, Mastodon, Kreator, Amorphis, and many more, can check their live performances at today’s Graspop Metal Meeting festival in Belgium today over at Skynet.be.
The schedule is as follows:
Amorphis 14:00 – 14:45
Kreator 14:50 – 15:40
Moonsorrow 15:45 – 16:30
Mastodon 16:35 – 17:35
Legion of the Damned 17:40 – 18:30
Avenged Sevenfold 18:35 – 19:35
Opeth 19:40 – 20:40
Rob Zombie 20:45 – 22:00
Cavalera Conspiracy 22:05 – 23:05
Headlines!
It’s time for more headlines. News that aren’t worth individual posts. Wait, I shouldn’t have said that, right? Oh well…
Adler’s Appetite revealed their new line-up. Problem is, I didn’t even know who was in the band before and well, I don’t give a shit either. But anyhow, Patrick Stone is their new vocalist and Lonnie Paul will be playing the guitar from now on. Woop de doo.
All Shall Perish announced the title of their upcoming album and it’s going to be called… drumroll please… ‘This Is Where It Ends’ and I can only hope so.
When asked how far into writing a new album Mastodon have been so far, Brann Dailor (drums) said this in an interview:
“It’s coming along really good. We’re just about done. I’m excited to get into the studio and start recording.”
Jamey Jasta recently talked a bit about his upcoming solo album. Here’s what he had to say:
“It’s just more of the thrash and rock element in it. I think there’s a lot more clean singing than I’m used to doing. It’s a lot of stuff that I recorded for other artists, but it ended up sounding cool so I just left it in there. My engineer was really liking the stuff that I was doing. I still have a lot of guest parts on there — Randy Blythe from Lamb of God, Zakk Wylde, Phil Labonte , Tim from As I Lay Dying, Mark Morton from Lamb of God — so it’s just like a fun project before we do the next Hatebreed album.”
And last but not least, the Big Four were presented with double platinum (pictured above) plaques for the Big Four DVD. Picture of the happy guys after the jump.
