Weak Recap: Simo’s back!
You guys remember Simo, right? He took a two-month break from the interwebz, to see if this ‘real life’ thing is as good as people say it is. Once he realized talking to a girl in real life is not as easy as on Facebook, he came back. With a vengeance.
Okay, so maybe not with a vengeance, but he came back. And now I get to interview him, which is not an honor and a privilege.
We’ll talk about a lot of things, a lot of boring things, so I’m not gonna lie to you… It will be a pretty boring article, so don’t bother reading this further. It will only make you waste a lot of valuable time.
But if you’ve got nothing better to do, make the jump and read what two people who rarely get laid (and when they do, it ends in tears) have to say about this past week’s articles.
Enjoy! (you won’t, trust me, but I like being optimistic)
Max Cavalera Jr. plays drums
Max Cavalera’s son, Zyon Cavalera (like the Matrix city of the same name), plays drums. And he doesn’t play drums just anywhere, apparently he’ll jam with Cavalera Conspiracy on their July 31 performance in Belgium.
Jeez, I wonder how he got the gig. Did he know someone in the band or something?
I think it’s cool that the kid is also pursuing music, but what the hell is with that name? Did Max watch too much Matrix? Or is he way too old to be born after the first movie came out? Hey, math was never my strongest quality, why do you think I fucking write a blog?
If this kid was in my school, I’d say “Woah!” to him all the time, do some Neo moves, then just punch him and ask him for his rich rockstar dad lunch money. Yes, I’m cool like that.
New Gojira EP details
Thanks to Metal Hammer we have some more details regarding the upcoming special EP from Gojira.
The EP is going to feature a whole wealth of artists, so it’s like all your favorite porn stars involved in one awesome film. Only this is music and it won’t make people think you’re a weird pervert, but my analogy sure will make people think I’m one. Oh well…
The EP will feature none other than Devin Townsend, Randy from Lamb of God, Max Cavalera of four million bands (Soulfly etc), Anders of In Flames, and some of the dudes from Meshuggah. It’s also for charity and Greenpeace, but I don’t really care about the preachy crap, because I’m hardcore like that. If you do, however, you can get all the details from Metal Hammer.
Sepultura is not reuniting, mmkay?
Sepultura frontman Derrick Green just squashed some barely-existent rumors about his band reuniting with Max Cavalera (which would mean replacing Derrick, ouch).
“That’s all they are, rumors. I mean nobody has contact with [Max] or anyone in his band. And he’s doing his own thing. The reunion, I think, is with his brother [Igor]. I’m happy to see Igor with his family again. It was 10 years that they didn’t speak. I think for the people that really wanted the reunion, there it is. They can go see them and check that out and be happy because I know that we are happy in what we’re doing and we keep pushing forward and we keep doing what we love to do and we’re always going to represent Sepultura in a positive manner because it’s truly what we believe in.“
Read full interview here.
Woah, settle down there Derrick. I know you’re not happy hearing about being replaced all the time but no need to get so defensive about it.
I’m kidding, I really think he answered that question with a lot of tact since I can name about 10 other frontmen who would have slammed the hell out of Max just to answer this question. But I do think a Cavalera-heavy Sepultura album is just a few good paychecks away.
Headlines! Headlines!! Headlines!!!
So here are today’s headlines, you lucky bunch.
California lolcore deathcore band Suicide Silence were recently interviewed at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards. The video can be viewed here. What did they talk about? I have no clue. I don’t care either way, I’m too busy eating Cadbury Mini Eggs and watching this clip over and over.
Kunvuk released their their debut, ‘Immute:Jackals‘, on September 16th/2010. I guess no one bought it, so they decided to give the album out for FREE! It seems like a new trend these days, where unknown bands are releasing full albums for nothing. It makes sense, since touring is how metal bands make money these days. Let’s hope people that will download this, will also end up at one of their shows.
Steve “Lips” Kudlow from Anvil recently admit that the band finally are making money for the first time in 30 years
What has essentially happened is that I no longer work my day job. I’m making my ends meet from the band. Am I making more? I don’t know, probably. But it’s not like I’m buying a limousine. I’m existing and not having to worry about going to a job. And that’s great; I’ve worked 30 years to get there.
Good for them. My only issue is Lips complaining over and over in the documentary about “not making” it. I mean, that stuff happens all the time in the business. A lot of times, good bands never get notice, ever – sometimes you get lucky. That’s life in the metal world. By the way, in case you missed it a few days ago, you can hear a new song from Anvil here.
As usual, Max Cavalera is hoping the original Sepultura lineup will one day reunite. He didn’t exactly say it in those words, but it’s rather obvious he wants the reunion when you read this interview, or any Max Cavalera interview over the last ten years.
And that’s it for today, make sure you stay tuned to Dose of Metal for your daily dose of awesomeness!
