Lulu – Lou Reed =
If you ever thought the Lou Reed / Metallica songs could have been improved without Reed‘s pretentious poems, someone just did you a solid.
Above you have a version of ‘The View’ without Lou Reed. Is it better? Hmmm, maybe just a little, but I don’t think that’s saying much.
I am the blog. I am the progress.
Kidtallica
While Metallica are off doing their lame Lulu project, a bunch of kids are ‘metalling’ it up, performing a morbid cover of ‘Tallica‘s ‘Enter Sandman’.
The playing is a little sloppy, and the kid’s idea of singing is something along the lines of “eeeexxxeeet deeeeerp, deeeeeerpy niiiiiyyyt”, but they’re still infinitely more metal than Metallica. Plus the little girl in the skirt (no, not Kirk) plays the solo, which is more than Korn or any of those Nu Metal bands do when they cover Tallica. It’s official, kids > Nu Metal.

Metallica will put the M in MTV
Metallica‘s Indian concert, happening on October 28 in Delhi, will be broadcast by MTV. Now, I don’t know if it’s just MTV India, as this article seems to suggest, or if it will be picked up by every MTV in the world…
“After refurbishing indie music on Roots, Coke studio and Unplugged, MTV India will broadcast the first concert of world-renowned metal band ‘Metallica’ in India. […] MTV reaches approx 130 million people across 40 million homes and it’s a huge thing for MTV to broadcast the most awaited concert in India in association with F1 Rocks. Metallica concert will boost the Indian economy as international acts tend to do well in the live-music circuit in an emerging economy like India.“

You know you’ve made it when you can ‘boost’ the economy of the second biggest country in the world, with a single performance.
You can still buy tickets for this gig right here, in case you want to see yourself on MTV.
When asked if his band can boost anyone’s economy, Dave Mustaine just made an impression of Lars and got mad.
Boredom + lack of news =
So with all the Lulu talk over the last few weeks (it’s going to suck, I don’t really care, I won’t listen to it), I figured ‘why not listen to some music from Metallica that doesn’t suck donkey penis?’
Thus, I am posting their cover of ‘Whiskey in the Jar’ (made well known by Thin Lizzy). Yes, it isn’t Metal, and yes, it’s a cover, but it’s a damn good one. Plus it has lesbians in the video, and any video with lesbians is good in my books.
Lulu makes AJFA sound like the first Ramones album, according to Lars Ulrich
Rolling Stone conducted an interview with both Lou Reed and members of Metallica, and it’s mostly the same cliché stuff like “You have to feel it” and “This is really unique!” (yes, they really say those things).
But one quote definitely caught my attention:
“a few days after Lulu is mastered, Ulrich describes listening to the album on a late-night car ride. ‘I was overwhelmed,’ he confesses. ‘I also felt,’This is really unique.” How unique? He laughs. ‘This makes… And Justice for All sound like the first Ramones album.‘”

Say what? Dude, is you crazy?
Listen, AJFA is my favorite Metallica album, and I consider it their best (or second best, really on par with MoP). How can you even include that album when talking about this experimental stuff? Jeez, Lars, I’m so disappointed.
I get that the guys are trying to hype up their release, I also get that they might be proud of it, but leave the 80s Metallica albums out of it, for the love of God, it’s borderline blasphemous to use them in the same sentence.
