Tuesday Trivia: Killing in the name of…
So, what do you get when you combine Metallica and Linkin Park? St. Anger? Kind of, but not what I’m talking about. Summer Sanitarium tour 2003? Well, that happened, but again, not the point of this article. What exactly is the point of this article?
Actually, this piece of trivia doesn’t have a direct correlation between the two. There’s a third party involved which is the bond. I know you’re interested, well read on.
Thrash ’til Death – Big Four times four
I’m a Thrash Metalhead. I love Thrash Metal as much as the next guy, if the next guy is a badass who loves Thrash Metal as much as I do.
Metalheads have been speculating about The Big Four for a while now. Who deserves to be there, who would make it into a “Big Five” and so on…
It got me thinking… Who would be my personal Big Four? I couldn’t decide so I wrote a list of all the thrash bands I consider awesome and I came up with a total of 16 bands. Being the math genius that I am, I realized that’s four big fours because 4 times 4 equals 16. See? You’re learning about metal AND math from my lectures.
So I’m dividing my list into four separate groups. Each group is led by a genuine Big Four band (this week it’s Metallica, next week it’s Slayer, etc…) and has 3 other thrash bands that I like.
When you make the jump, keep in mind this is purely a list of thrash acts I like and has got nothing to do with success, influence or anything else.
Friday Top 10: Heavy metal soap operas
Heavy metal. The genre which you’d think that uses fists and bad ass guitar show-offs to settle differences. Well, no luck there. Especially with the rise of the internet, following certain events makes you want to grab some popcorn, sit back and enjoy your daily dose of soap. Therefore, this week’s Top 10: Heavy metal soap operas.

Lars Ulrich got another job
When Lars made a cameo in “Get Him To The Greek,” people kept joking about him wanting an acting career. I laughed at that preposterous assumption. But who’s laughing now?
“HBO has added Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich to ‘Hemingway and Gellhorn,’ starring Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen. Ulrich will play Dutch documentarian Joris Ivens in the TV movie, which chronicles the stormy marriage between Ernest Hemingway and war correspondent Martha Gellhorn.“

Haha, really? Did they think of him because of “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” the Metallica song inspired by Ernest Hemingway‘s novel of the same name? Cause the movie seems to take place around the time that novel was written. Can you imagine Robert Trujillo scoring the whole movie on bass? Wow, this sounds like Oscar material already.
Frankly, if Lars is pursuing a movie career, I have two movies I’d like to see him in. One — A full length feature adaptation of “Napster Bad.” Two — The Robocop reboot. Look at that photo above and tell me he doesn’t look like Murphy. Your move, creep.
