Review: The Big 4 Live From Sofia, Bulgaria (Deluxe Box Set)
June 22th, 2010 was one of the most metal days in the existence of… everything! The Big Four of Thrash Metal; Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax; not only played the same festival, the Sonisphere Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria, together. No, their performances were also recorded, edited and aired in over 800 cinemas all over the world, where over 100,000 fans watched the spectacle.
Now, a couple of days ago, the Box Set of the event was released. I bought it and shall do a short but to the point review for you within the next couple of minutes. Go on after the jump.
In addition, we will hold a Big Four Week soon (dates to be announced), where we will review each performance in-depth, as well as comparing the DVDs and Blu-Rays of the event and whatever else we can think of.
Call of Metallica
I thought the beauty of being (as big as) Metallica is not having to play private gigs and corporate parties. I guess I was wrong, cause Metallica will perform at the new Call of Duty game party. Exciting.
“Our friends over at Activision, the fine folks who bring you the ‘Guitar Hero’ games, noticed a small hole in the Metalli-tour schedule in between Australian dates and rang us up to invite us to the launch of their next ‘Call Of Duty’ game, ‘Black Ops’. One thing led to another and next thing we know, we’re playing at the party!!!“

Seriously, I think this is a tad unflattering. Ricky Gervais turned down £1,000,000 to be flown to China and play a small corporate stand-up gig because he thought it was demeaning and that he wasn’t for sale, and his net worth is probably what Lars spends once a week at art auctions.
But I will let it slide since they are in a relationship with Activision and there’s one redeeming quality about this:
“Tickets will not go on sale, but we have a limited number of passes for Fan Club members to attend. If you’re a Met Club member and will be in the L.A. area in a few days, head over to www.metclub.com to find out how you can win a pair of tickets.“
They are running a free lottery for fans for a chance to be there, and bring a friend too. If you’re in MetClub and can make it, try your luck.
Make-A-Metal-Wish
The guys in Metallica might be money hungry, they may not be metal anymore but they sure seem to be good guys and that’s what matters at the end of the day, right? Right.
How did I come to that conclusion? Recently Hetfield, Ulrich, Hammett and Trujillo agreed to do a meet-and-greet with a 17-year-old fan of theirs. Said fan was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia last September and got to meet the band through the Make-A-Wish foundation of New Zealand.

Are you evil?
The Big Four DVD/Blu-Ray will be released in a few days, but if you live under a rock and haven’t seen this on YouTube yet, the video of the four bands performing “Am I Evil” is available for free.
So get it here. You can also watch it on YouTube, after the jump, but keep in mind this is a different version, from a day or two after it happened. The iTunes one might be of better quality, so get that too just in case, don’t be lazy.
Metallica keep releasing stuff
I know what you’re thinking. You need more Metallica releases in your life. You must be thinking that, because they haven’t released anything in the last 5 days so fans must be feeling withdrawal symptoms already.
You’re in luck, because there’s a new EP being released in November.
“If you picked up ‘Six Feet Down Under,’ you may have noticed the words ‘EP One’ on the package and were quick to ask, ‘What the hell does that mean?’ Well, drum roll please […] Look for ‘Six Feet Down Under Part II’ in Australian and New Zealand stores, along with Metallica.com and Metclub.com, on November 12.”
Track listing and cover after the jump
So fear not, Metallica fans. As long as money still exists, you’ll be able to invest it in your favorite band. Look out for their upcoming release “Metallica: Dose Of Metal wrote about us EP” coming soon, celebrating this very post.
