Kirk Hammett's still learning

Metallica‘s bimbo Kirk Hammett recently did an interview with Ultimate-Guitar.com and said the following about his guitar playing “You know, I think as a metal guitar player, I am decent. I am no Eddie Van Halen, but I am still learning, am still learning stuff day to day and still feel like I am growing. I also still think that my music writing is still getting better.”.

For once, I’ve got to agree with Hammett. He is decent. That’s where I stop agreeing with him, though. He’s obviously not getting better but maybe he’s just learning the wrong stuff day to day? Maybe he should stop jamming to the latest Bullet for My Valentine record and listen to some… uh… metal?

Lars is a good actor

Even more Lars news. We know you can’t get enough of him. This time he’s acting.

“Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich and actor Peter Coyote are featured in the trailers for the upcoming 33rd edition of the Mill Valley Film Festival, set to take place October 7-17, 2010.“

Today's your lucky day

Because I know how much you love interviews which aren’t really informative, just the same series of questions everyone asks. For once I’d like to see an interviewer ask the questions I’d like to ask.

Disturbed (pictured above) singer David Draiman was interviewed by some chick who looks like a fish. Nothing special, video after the jump. I would have asked him why he shaves his head instead of embracing his Constanza hairline.

Metallica keep giving interviews left and right in Australia and New Zealand. Probably because they have 20 dvds coming out. Anyway, this interview is with Lars Ulrich, but nobody asked him to be polite and take the plums out of his mouth while talking. Video after the jump.

The third interview is with Dimmu Borgir’s guitarists, whose names I can’t really spell. Gagler and Erkejetlag or something. Anyways, check out all the flowers in the background, a very appropriate setting for this band. No questions about why they sound like Borat, unfortunately. Video after the jump.

And the final interview of the day is with none other than Suicidal Tendencies. Are they a softcore porn site with tattooed chicks? Nope, that’s what we thought too, though. They’re a real band! And apparently they’re huge, as you can see by the high profile blogspot blogger who interviewed their guitarist. It’s just an audio interview, and they don’t have the money to stream it so you have to download it.

Metallideth Charity

Half of The Big Four are doing some charity work. Not together, but at the same time, which is quite a coincidence.

Metallica are auctioning a one hour drum lessons and dinner with none other than Lars Ulrich. This will mean flying to their headquarters, getting a tour of the Metallica HQ,  etc… All proceeds go to the “Andre Agassi Foundation for Education, a not-for-profit public charity dedicated to transforming education to create opportunities for children.“ — More info here.

Megadeth are auctioning a Hartke bass amp, signed by the whole band, directly via eBay. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.— More info after the jump.

Now, we usually crack a joke or two about each news item we post. I could say that that taking drum lessons from Lars is like taking driving lessons from Stevie Wonder. Or ask if Megadeth is auctioning off a bass amp cause you can barely hear it anyway in most of their songs. But I’m not gonna do that.

Seriously though, charity is always a worthy cause so make sure you start bidding.
