Tuesday Trivia: The most listened to metal band ever
First of all, iPods don’t have any commercials with metalheads, so blame Apple, not me. Anyway, in his Weak Recap a few weeks back, Guido joked stated that we are super-awesome. Something like the super-heroes of metal. And no, not that Kiss movie… Lulz.
He was right, though — we’re all-knowing, and tonight only, I’m dropping knowledge and revealing the metal’s best kept secret – which metal band is the most played one ever. Hurry, make the jump.

Heavy metal. The genre which you’d think that uses fists and bad ass guitar show-offs to settle differences. Well, no luck there. Especially with the rise of the internet, following certain events makes you want to grab some popcorn, sit back and enjoy your daily dose of soap. Therefore, this week’s Top 10: Heavy metal soap operas.

Nightwish bassist: ‘we’re not a pop band’
Nightwish bassist/vocalist, Marco Hietala has recently commented on the recording process for the follow-up to 2007’s “Dark Passion Play” stating that, so far, most of the bass tracks have been recorded. Which is news to me, since I had hoped assumed the band had split up a couple of years ago, after the female-fronted, gothic, pretend Metal fad had died out.
Marco goes on to say that the tracks ‘need more explosives’ claiming that Nightwish “afterall, aren’t a pop band.”

Tarja likes Christmas
Remember the original singer from Nightwish? Her name was Tarja Turunen. She was with Nightwish from 1996-2005. Nightwish actually did well in sales for a symphonic power metal band. The rest of the guys in the band didn’t care, instead fired her because she was a huge bitch. Since her departure from Nightwish, Tarja released two albums. Is her solo material any good? Does she play to more than 500 people a night? I have no idea.
I do know that she’s back touring. It’s not just any tour, it’s going to be a special Christmas tour. Tarja plans to perform in churches across Finland. She’s also bringing out a bunch of Finnish musicians who I have never heard of before.

Saturday Headlines
Max Cavalera (pictured above) of Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy and Sepultura (back when they were good) has been interviewed in Australia. Unfortunately, nobody asked him why he keeps a full beard if he can’t grow proper hair on his cheeks. Video after the jump.
Nightwish sounds like that awful Linkin Park / Jay Z album they did, only they took Pavarotti instead of that atrocious rapper. So I’m not excited that they’re recording a new album, and neither should you.
The hired musicians who pretend to be Guns N’ Roses are everything people hated about the original band, with none of their past qualities. Kind of like the opposite of Blade, if you know what I mean. Anyways, they keep coming late at each gig and now they’ll pay a $100,000 fine for playing past the London curfew. Awesome news.
Apparently there was a contest about playing poker with Godsmack. My guess is, the winner would avoid going to a Godsmack concert, the losers had to play poker with them. Video of the poor schmucks who lost, after the jump.
