Slipknot get new touring bassist
Slipknot is the only nu-metal band you’re allowed to like, maybe because they’re original. Sure, Mushroomhead, Kiss and all the other gimmick masked/painted bands did this before them. But still, putting masks on takes time so you gotta respect that. Or maybe not.
Anyway, Slipknot lost their bassist, Paul Gray, almost a full year ago so now it’s time for a replacement. And I wish I could make a joke but they actually made a pretty wise choice.
“Donnie was in the band at the very beginning, and rather than get an outsider, we thought it would be a fitting tribute to Paul to play with someone from within the family. Donnie was great friends with Paul and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his memory than with someone who was there with us at the very beginning. The eight of us are looking forward to being onstage again and honoring Paul‘s legacy with our families in Europe and Brazil this summer.“
So the new bassist is Donnie Steele (sounds like a pornstar name, but it isn’t… I think) and he’s been in the band before and was good friends with Paul, so yeah, fans must be happy. Then again, they’re called ‘maggots’ by their favorite band, so how happy can they really be?
Friday Top 10: The year 2010 in metal
2010. Not as good as 2001, but still okay. Can you believe the year is coming to and end? I barely can. And then I got the job to compile a list of the most important things that happened this year. When I say the most important, I mean the most important in metal. No matter what your mom tells you, nothing is more important than metal.
Make the jump to see what made the list, and bitch about the things that haven’t.
An 8 Minute video on the deaths of Dimebag and Paul Gray
Norwegian TV show “Lydverket” (web site) aired a mini-documentary about the deaths of “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott (PANTERA, SLIPKNOT) and Paul Gray (SLIPKNOT). During the eight-minute segment, which can be viewed below (with English subtitles), Vinnie Paul Abbott (PANTERA, HELLYEAH) and Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT, STONE SOUR) spoke openly about how they dealt with the losses of their bandmembers and friends, and in Vinnie’s case, his brother.
Usually, I really don’t like to just copy-and-paste news from another source, Blabbermouth in this case, but I don’t have a better description for the video myself, so I just did it now.
I’ve read and seen a lot about the death of Dimebag Darrell but I thought the video was pretty powerful and touching so it’s definitely worth a watch. Do so after the jump.
