Live Review: Rammstein 11-08-2011
It’s not every day I get to write an article like this, so it gives me much pleasure to be the one to bring it to you. Fresh off the start of their Made in Germany 1995-2011 tour, I give you a review of Rammstein‘s latest tour offering.
What’s it like? Actually, here’s the thing: if you’re planning on seeing them on this tour, I’d say the best option is not to read this or any other reviews or watch any clips, because you’ll be spoiling much of the show. In case you don’t care, well, by all means make the jump!
Rammstein to drop a schlager this Friday
Rammstein are releasing a greatest hits collection on December 2, titled Made in Germany 1995-2011. To make this sort of worth your money, the collection will also feature a new song, Mein Land (German for My Country, boom, how awesome am I for knowing this).
The single (and the video) for the song will be released this Friday (11.11.11.), and the promos for it have been pretty funny, in a typical Rammstein-y ironic manner. Wanna see Rammstein go Baywatch? Someone’s compiled all the promos for it so far, and you can watch them in the clip above.
If you make the jump, you can also find the cover artwork for the single, which explains the “schlager” in the post title. If you have no idea what a schlager is, you are definitely not from a German speaking country or a former Yugoslavian one, but luckily, Wikipedia speaks English.
The Russian way
From time to time I feel the urge to blow some dust off of some more or less obscure band, just because I’m feeling nostalgic, or perhaps because I think that particular band deserves a bit more exposure. My criteria are, of course, highly questionable and debatable.
In this particular case, one can’t quite use the word “obscure” in describing Aria. They’re Russian and they’re quite past their prime, true, but when one of your songs is a duet with the gruffest, meanest German heavy metal voice this side of the Cold War, Udo Dirkschneider of Accept and U.D.O. fame, you’re one step closer to the light. The video above stands proof.
But, when this already solid piece of a metal ballad is further covered by Rammstein‘s Till Lindemann and Richard Z. Kruspe, you can safely assume you’ve reached some level of celebrity. Right?
Hear the cover below. It doesn’t matter if you already heard it, there’s always room for one more listen:
Daily Dose Of Metal: Rammstein
I usually don’t pay much attention to my dreams, but last night I had a weird one – it included Rammstein. I don’t remember much, but the image of Till is still strong in my head.
What does it mean? Am I trying to cope with some thoughts about large husky men on a subconsious level? Or is my subconcious telling me to buy tickets for the show? I hope it’s the second one, because I woke up with a boner.
Either way, a good thing came out of it, today’s Daily Dose. I picked one of my favorites from Reise, Reise, simply because I can actually understand around 90% of Dalai Lama without the need of lyrics and those awful online translators. And well, the song is fucking grooving, just tell me that “Hörst du denn den Donner nicht?” and the part that follows doesn’t make you want to jump outside of the nearest window.
Friday Top 10: Live videos I enjoy
It’s a very slow Friday here at the Dose of Metal office, probably because we don’t have one.
Anyway, since we don’t have a great Top 10 for today, instead of just not posting one, I’ve decided to do a half-assed one. Well, everything on this site is half-assed, so this would be more of a ‘quarter-assed’ article.
So this is a list of ten live videos I enjoy. If you can’t cope with so much mediocrity, please understand that it’s not our fault our moms drank vodka during our pregnancies.
We also used that photo of a crowd that a reader sent to us, just to show how racially diverse we are, yo.
