Friday Top 10: Notorious acts
It’s a late Friday evening, which means whilst everyone else is out either getting laid or getting drunk, I’m once again stuck inside, writing for Dose of Metal and publishing this week’s Friday Top 10.
Metal as a genre is undoubtedly one that is full of controversies, stories of self-mutilation, murder, drugs and religious intolerance. Sure, these are often unjustified criticisms directed at the genre by conservative morons, and I am by no means trying to play into these idiots’ hands, but the purpose of this Top 10 is going to revel in some of the “edgier” sides of Metal.
So if you’re interested in reading about some of the more controversial, notorious and outrageous Rock and Metal acts, then just make the motherfucking jump.
Metal Kino: Anakonda Im Netz
In the past couple of years, it became popular to shoot documentaries, as well as biographical feature films (i.e. Walk The Line, Ray etc.), about musicians. And it doesn’t stop with Metal. Documentaries about music genres or specific bands are more popular than ever before, so I thought it would be a good idea to start recommenting metal documentaries that are worth a watch right here at Dose of Metal.
We’re starting the first edition of Metal Kino (Kino is German for cinema, get it?) fittingly with a German band: Who else but Rammstein? The band released a documentary called Anakonda Im Netz (= Anaconda In The Net) with their Live DVD Völkerball in 2006.
I couldn’t find a trailer for the documentary but the video above is also taken from Völkerball, a performance of ‘Reise, Reise,’ which also appears in the documentary.
The thing that impressed me the most about this documentary is that each of the bandmembers, especially the surprisingly soft-spoken Till Lindemann, seem to be extremely laid back, down to earth and just overall very nice. Coupled with their exemplary work ethnic (a typical German stereotype) and interesting stories from the road, this 60-minute film gives a nice view into the world of Rammstein.
A story of fire, fishing and heavy music, you can view Anakonda Im Netz after the jump. The film is in German with English subtitles.
Video of the Week: Rammstein (at Jimmy Kimmel)
You know, I like Rammstein, but isn’t ‘Du Hast’ the most overplayed song in their repertoire? I know that they haven’t toured in the States in about 10 years but is ‘Du Hast’ a good choice to play, instead of a new song?
They played that particular song on Jimmy Kimmel Live this past thursday and, while I really enjoyed the performance, I’m simply just sick of the song. The band released four albums since then and — even though this might be their most known song — I think this is a poor choice to get back into people’s minds.
I don’t even particularly like their new album, Liebe Ist Für Alle Da (= Love Is For Everyone), but I think I would have prefered them to play a song off that record.
But it is what it is, and I imagine Jimmy Kimmel and his people had a say in that, too. So just watch the performance above and enjoy a lot of fire because that’s what Rammstein are all about. Crazy and fun shows with a lot of fire.
The Golden Gods Awards trailer is here
I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t trust any award ceremony where they honor Gods and I’m not nominated. So don’t hold it against me if I’m not extremely excited for this ceremony.
But its trailer has hit the net (as seen above) and it does feature a Pantera song so how bad can it be? Well, let’s put it this way… Avenged Sevenfold seems like the big winner of the evening.
By the way, this already happened last month, but it’s gonna be aired more than a month later because, why would you need to show it as it happens? It’s just an award ceremony, it’s not like anyone will post the awards rendering the whole night useless as the ‘excitement factor’ disappears. Get real, yo.
Make the jump for a list of what will happen so that you don’t have to actually watch it.
Tuesday Trivia: The most listened to metal band ever
First of all, iPods don’t have any commercials with metalheads, so blame Apple, not me. Anyway, in his Weak Recap a few weeks back, Guido joked stated that we are super-awesome. Something like the super-heroes of metal. And no, not that Kiss movie… Lulz.
He was right, though — we’re all-knowing, and tonight only, I’m dropping knowledge and revealing the metal’s best kept secret – which metal band is the most played one ever. Hurry, make the jump.
