SFU and a little triumph for DoM

A while ago, Six Feet Under announced that bassist Terry Butler and drummer Greg Gall left the band and shortly after that, SFU announced that Kevin Talley, former drummer of Chimaira, among others, joined the band and that they’ve also been working with “a new writing partner” for 4 months already.

If you read the second news post I linked above, you’ll also notice that I speculated about the new writing partner and suggested Jim LaMarca and Rob Arnold of Chimaira. Well, guess what? It’s not 100% confirmed but Terry Butler said the following in an interview:

“Six Feet Under is moving on and they’re gonna be a five-piece. I’ve heard through the grapevine that they’re working with [guitarist] Rob [Arnold] from Chimaira — he’s their new writing partner — and Kevin Talley [Daath, Misery Index, Chimaira] is gonna be playing drums.”

Six Feet Under announce new drummer

Recently, Terry Butler (bass) and Greg Gall (drums) left Six Feet Under to concentrate on other bands. According to Chris Barnes, he and Steve Swanson have been writing with a new partner for 4 months already. Now, SFU announced their new drummer, former Chimaira, Daath and Misery Index drummer Kevin Talley.

“I am 110 percent stoked to have Kevin join Six Feet Under. He is undeniably one of the best, if not THE best drummer in death metal, and I’m proud to have him along for the ride!”

And now it’s time for some speculation. 4 months ago, around the time Barnes and Swanson started writing new SFU tunes with a new writing partner, Jim LaMarca quit playing the bass for Chimaira. Chimaira are known for being SFU fans and now that former Chimaira drummer Kevin Talley joined Six Feet Under, it wouldn’t surprise me if LaMarca (or even Rob Arnold) were to join them, too.

Chris Barnes on Six Feet Under’s future

Does Six Feet Under have a future? I was thinking about that yesterday, after Terry Butler and Greg Gall announced their departure from the band. Today, Chris Barnes released a message to all Six Feet Under fans via their homepage.

“To the loyal fans of Six Feet Under–

Our long time friends and bandmates, Terry Butler and Greg Gall , have decided to move on and depart from SFU. Steve Swanson and myself are grateful for all the fun times we’ve shared together through the years, and wish them the best of luck in their musical endeavors.

just to fill you all in, Steve and myself are very excited about the future of the SFU, and i have been working hard on writing the new SFU material for the past 4 months with a new writing partner.

i will make this guarantee and promise to all the fans of Six Feet Under; the new line up will be a DEATH METAL force to be dealt with, with the long awaited addition of a brutal as fuck drummer and riffs that will rip your face off, vocals ala 1993-1995…

thank you all for your continued support and devotion, see you soon!”

Sounds good to me. I’ll be blasting ‘Haunted’ all day today.

6 Feet Under – 2 = 4 Feet Under?

Terry Butler and Greg Gall, bassist and drummer of Six Feet Under (more like formerly of Six Feet Under), quit the band to focus on other bands. Terry Butler now officially joins Obituary on bass. That only leaves Chris Barnes and Steve Swanson in the band.

Butler released the following statement to Blabbermouth;

“I would just like to put it out there that Greg Gall and I have parted ways with Six Feet Under.
As many of you know, I have been helping Obituary out on bass over the past year and now will be officially joining them as a permanent band member.
Being in Six Feet Under for 16 years, I have had the pleasure of meeting a lot of our dedicated fans and have made many friends along the way. I hope to see you out there!
I wish nothing but the best for Chris Barnes and Steve Swanson in their future with Six Feet Under.”

Now there’s only one question unanswered. If 2 members of Six Feet Under leave the band, does that equal “6 Feet Under – 2 = 4 Feet Under” or “6 Feet Under – 2 band members (= 1,5 Feet Under each) = 3 Feet Under,” indicating that each member equals 1,5 Feet Under to add up to the original 6 Feet Under?

Six Feet Under release preview for DVD

Six Feet Under are going to release the DVD ‘Wake the Night! Live in Germany’ on January 31 in Europe, February 1 in North America. German Death Metal fans can buy the DVD 3 days earlier than the rest of Europe though. Why? Because Germany rules and SFU loves us. I’m still German, for those who didn’t know.

None other than Dusty Peterson, who helped us write yesterday’s Top 10, did the artwork for said DVD. He also did the artwork for Six Feet Under’s latest ‘Graveyard Classics,’ number III that is.

Now, on with the news. Chris Barnes and Co. released a preview of their DVD, the performance of ‘Victim of the Paranoid’. Check it out after the jump and don’t be a fucking victim, be a fucking killer.
