Weak Recap: Hello, we’re metal!
We’re one of the last of a dying breed. We’re the Albert Einstein of brutality, the William Shakespear of violence, the Arnold Schwarzenegger of funny, the Michael Jackson of metal. All these comparisons are way off though… because we’re better than those guys and we’re certainly better than anyone else out there, including you!
We’re so good, we’re interviewing each other. Who needs interviews with musicians, who have been interviewed already thousands of times? No one!
So, you want to know what happened this past week in metal? Make the jump, we’ll teach you a lesson.
My thoughts on: The Big Four tour
Before 2010, the thought of The Big Four touring together was almost a dream. Metal fans would have given their right testicle for something like this to happen. Now, a year after the first Big Four date was announced, people have taken it for granted and they’re just bitching, bitching, bitching and bitching.
I wonder why? Is it because most people are whiny and demanding? Yes.
Having attended two Big Four show last summer, and being the owner of a pretty awesome dick, I think I am more than qualified to comment on this thing and if you don’t like it, you’re probably a Justin Bieber fan.
So make the jump and read my thoughts on this whole thing. Hint: It’s gonna be insightful and amazing.
Big Four Headlines
You know how we do a headlines post every now and then, summing up lots of news into one post? Well, over the past couple of days, there have been some news on Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer so I’m just summing those up in a Big Four headlines post. Awesome, right? In-fucking-deed. Let’s get it on.
Lars Ulrich gave an interview to The Press-Enterprise, talking about the Big Four, Metallica being “pretty adventurous” and ‘tallica’s 30th anniversary. Read it here.
Kerry King gave an interview to The Desert Sun, where he talked about Gary Holt replacing Jeff Hanneman, Slayer’s 30th anniversary (I’m having a déjà vu) and the possibility of Slayer retiring. The link to the interview is down at the moment of me writing this, but you can try it yourself here. Here’s an excerpt of what he said about the retirement question:
“I remember people started hitting us up after ‘Christ Illusion’ — ‘How long do you plan to keep going?’ We are making relevant, good music. We’re still putting on good shows and having fun. That’s what it’s all about.”
King also gave an interview to LA Weekly and shared this interesting tidbit about Jeff Hanneman:
“He’s trying his ass off. He’s been talking about playing [the “Big Four“] show [on April 23 in Indio, California], but I just don’t see how physically he’d be able to do that. I’m just being realistic.”
Read the full interview here. Meanwhile Dave Mustaine is praying for Hanneman. I’m sure that’ll help him.
David Ellefson went down memory lane, visited the birthplace of Megadeth — where he met Dave Mustaine in 1983 — and shot a video. Watch the video after the jump.
Scott Ian gave an interview to The Desert Sun (I’m having a déjà vu once again, what the…) and talked about the Big Four (déjà… ah, fuck it) and about Anthrax being “a better band than we were even in 1987 or 1988”. Read the full interview here.
And now make the jump for that video Ellefson, arguably the nicest guy of the Big Four, shot.

What’s a kickass album without kickass artwork? If you’re like me, you love your Death Metal and Death Metal bands are known for their violent and brutal album covers, so I just made a Top 10 for most brutal album covers.
Make the jump for this week’s Friday Top 10. You can view the Top 10 even if you’re at work. Click the pictures to view the full artwork.
Headlines! Headlines! Headlines!
Time for some headlines, baby! Let’s get it on…
Children of Bodom announced a month-long North American headlining tour in June. Main support? The Devin Townsend (pictured above) Project. Also supporting are Obscura and Septicflesh. Sounds like a nice lineup to me. Dates have yet to be announced.
All-girl metal (I use the word “metal” very loosely in this context) band (I use the word “band” very loosely in this context) Kittie are going into the studio, to record the follow-up to ‘In The Black,’ next week. Yay, I guess. Yay for those who enjoy Pussy’s Kittie’s music. Yay for all two of you.
Seether frontman Shaun Morgan claimed that former Seether guitarist has gone back to his former band Evanescence. Eh, what’s a Seether? Anywho, shortly after Morgan claimed that, Evanescence’s management declined it. But honestly, who the fuck cares?
When asked about why Slayer chose Gary Holt as a replacement for Jeff Hanneman, Dave Lombardo had the following to say:
“Me and Kerry were on the side of the stage at Hellfest, in France. Both me and Kerry, were “Come on, let’s go listen to Exodus. Let’s hear Exodus. We haven’t seen them in a while.” We saw Exodus and I was like, “Wow. Now I remember why I liked them so much, when I was young.” […] “Look at that guy. That guy’s an amazing guitar player. He’s a good player.” And so, when this happened, the first person that came to Kerry’s mind, and myself, [was] Gary. I mean he was there, from the beginning. He knows that style.”

Dave Murray, of Iron Maiden, was recently asked if there is going to be a follow-up to ‘The Final Frontier.’ Rumors that this was going to be Maiden’s last album surfaced ever since the band reveiled the title of the album. Murray had this to say about the situation:
“Possibly there will be, but it’s hard to say at the moment. It definitely won’t be next year, anyway. My gut feeling is once we sit down, if everyone’s up for it — that’s the main thing — then we’ll go for it.”
