Dose of the Nu
Nu-Metal isn’t exactly the most popular of genres. It’s the guy that never got the prom date, the girl that was still a virgin at 35, and the guy that was always picked last for sports. It’s the underdog, and in many respects, that’s exactly why so many kids identified with the genre. Let’s be honest though, the year is no longer 1999 and most of us have since grown up and realized the music was crap.
However, for every 1,000 misogynistic, shitty songs about sex, and every 2,000 songs about how much parents suck, there was at least one or two gems that actually stood out from the cesspit of a genre.
So, want to listen to 5 Nu-Metal songs that don’t suck (well in my opinion, feel free to disagree)? Then get your dosage after the jump. Before you do though, please realize that I don’t care who or what is Nu-Metal as I don’t even recognize it as a real genre. So don’t bother telling me that some a band is actually “Industrial Aggro Alternative Carnival Funk Grunge Metal” instead please, because not only do I not care, I also don’t care.
Friday Top 10: The year 2010 in metal
2010. Not as good as 2001, but still okay. Can you believe the year is coming to and end? I barely can. And then I got the job to compile a list of the most important things that happened this year. When I say the most important, I mean the most important in metal. No matter what your mom tells you, nothing is more important than metal.
Make the jump to see what made the list, and bitch about the things that haven’t.
$havo is expecting a paycheck
Well, well, well… System of a Down is getting back together (oh happy happy joy joy!!!!!!!!!!) and guess who’s gambling money away? Well it’s Shavo Odadjian of course, who else? With big paychecks coming his way next year, the guy can afford it.
He’s been spotted at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas one day prior to the official announcement of his band’s reunion. Bless his little heart… If I knew I was gonna capitalize on kids’ nostalgia in 2011, I’d be gambling too. Unfortunately I was never part of any musical fad so I’m reduced to playing Uno on Facebook, for free. Oh well…
More photos of him gambling here.
System of a Down are back
Posting via their official website, System of a Down made a shock announcement this morning. That’s right, they are officially reforming to play some dates next year. I mean it’s not like we already knew that last week, or that the rumor hadn’t been doing the rounds for literally forever, or that they hadn’t basically already “unofficially” been confirmed for 3 major festivals last week.
Posting simultaniously with SOAD’s announcement, the UK’s Download festival also announced that the band will be returning to the UK next year to headline the festival and that this will be a UK exclusive. In case you don’t know what that means, that means if you want to see SOAD and you’re from the UK, then you better go to Download, as that’ll be the only date. A bit like when Faith No More were UK exclusives at Download a couple of years ago, and you could only see them at Download. Well, that and at a show at the Brixton Academy and a “secret” slot and the Reading festival…
The chances are, too, that if you care about this, you will already know about this. So maybe my efforts are reporting this are a little in vain, but remember, you may look cool with all your mates being up to date with all the Metal news, but it won’t help you get a girlfriend.
System of a Metaltown
Oh yawn. This has got to be the worst kept secret in Metal in a long time, but in case you haven’t heard yet, System of a Down have reformed. The official announcement will be made tomorrow, despite the fact everyone already knows they’re back. They’ll be playing Rock am Ring and Rock im Park in Germany, and now they’ve been confirmed for Metaltown festival (click), set to take place June 17-18, 2011 in Gothenburg, Sweden. There’s also heavy rumors of the band playing the UK’s Download festival, who are also making an announcement tomorrow *wink* *wink*.
In all honesty though, this is great news. No more Scars on Broadway or Serj solo trash!
